Nutrition

We believe that a commitment to CrossFit is only part of the equation in achieving your fitness goals. What you put into your body will directly impact your success. We don’t prescribe fad diets. Instead we recommend eating a balanced diet that will help your body run at its optimal level.

So what is a balanced diet? A balanced diet is adequate proportions of carbohydrates, protein and fat at each and every meal. Some may have heard of 40-30-30 (40% carbohydrates, 30% protein and 30% fat) and others may be more familiar with The Zone. We are not nutritionists and don’t prescribe nutrition plans, but we have experience training individuals of all fitness levels and have observed the most efficient and greatest fitness successes from those who eat a balanced diet of nutrient-rich foods. We are happy to share the tips and knowledge we have acquired through our experiences.

In general terms, we recommend you eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar.  Eating good quality "real food" and avoiding anything processed will help to prevent the scourges of diet-induced disease.  However, if your goal is to control your weight or to optimize physical performance, more accurate and precise prescription is necessary.  Nutrition and your specific goals will be discussed in further detail during your Foundations classes so we can point you in the right direction.

Additionally, for members of Lotus CrossFit, we provide a nutrition blog that is updated daily.  This blog will assist you with making the right food choices, supply you with recipe ideas and overall informative nutrition articles.  It is also a fun way to share ideas, successes or struggles with your fellow athletes.  We want you to succeed in your quest for overall health and well-being and nutrition is the cornerstone.
